Wenceel Perez Not In Lineup Sunday

Wenceel Perez scratched from Sunday’s lineup

Orioles lose another starting pitcher to injury

Perez scratched with right shoulder soreness

Orioles right-hander Wenceel Perez has been scratched from his scheduled start Sunday against the Minnesota Twins due to right shoulder soreness, the team announced.

Manager Brandon Hyde said Perez felt discomfort after his last start Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox and had an MRI on Wednesday. The results of the MRI came back negative, but Hyde said the team is still being cautious with Perez.

“We’re going to give him a couple more days to see how he responds,” Hyde said. “We’re not going to rush him back. We want to make sure he’s healthy before we put him back out there.”

The Orioles have already lost two other starting pitchers to injury this season: John Means (elbow) and Dean Kremer (shoulder). With Perez now out, the Orioles will be without three of their top four starters.

Hyde said the Orioles will likely recall a pitcher from Triple-A Norfolk to start Sunday’s game against the Twins.

Perez is 2-2 with a 4.50 ERA in five starts this season. He has struck out 20 batters and walked 10 in 26 innings.

The Orioles are 14-27 this season and have lost seven of their last eight games.
